Tim Allen Shares What Tim ‘The Toolman’ Taylor Is Up to Now

Does all people know what time it is? Tim Allen absolutely does. In the closing season of Final Person Standing, Fox is pulling out all the stops — which includes reuniting Allen, 67, with a single of the most well known people he’s at any time performed, Tim “The Toolman” Taylor from Home Advancement.

In the initial promo for year 9, Mike Baxter comes experience-to-confront with Tim Taylor, a little something Allen under no circumstances considered would be attainable. In fact, he informed the writers, “Good luck,” when pitched the strategy.

“There are some intricate interactions concerning Disney and Household Advancement from way back when, and most of that is not public and not really legitimate,” Allen informed Us Weekly exclusively. “So, it was a blessing. I was surprised and happy that all people labored with each other and let us do it.”

When it was time to choose on the character, who he previous performed in the 1999 finale, it was not as straightforward as the comic believed it’d be.

“I didn’t even imagine about what it’d be like taking part in a character that I developed from my stage act 20 years in the past. I love comedy laid on top rated of drama or drama laid on top of comedy,” he informed Us, introducing that filming people scenes have been the first they did devoid of a studio audience thanks to the coronavirus protocols. “It acquired really terrifying. No studio viewers, all masks, and every thing. On leading of all that COVID stuff, we have to do our employment. It was not quick to disconnect from the not comfortable, the sadness of what COVID’s finished to all of us. Now we’re back again creating jokes. It was tricky for me to enjoy those two people and sell it — as an actor and also as a creator. In the end, it is pretty intelligent what they did. It’s extremely heat and enjoyment.”

Outside the house of the pandemic, it also felt unusual for Allen to be reprising the Toolman and bringing again the grunt all over again.

“It seemed weird and put on and phony, but the way it’s managed — it’s self-knowledgeable. It’s a second where by we split the fourth wall to him,” the Santa Clause star stated. “The grunting was element of his offer and he variety of cops to that. He’s gotten previous and he’s moved on. He no for a longer period does Instrument Time. I really don’t want to give far too a lot away, but it’s actually fairly intelligent.”

The Really don’t Stand Also Near to a Naked Person writer added that the Toolman has “moved on with his life” and now works for Binford Tools.

“He’s in Colorado for some assembly — Binford tools is all over the place — and he notices a man that appears to be like just like him,” he teased. “He says, ‘You know, individuals have instructed me I look like you!’ And of course, we enjoy with that for very a bit.”

Last Guy Standing returns with its final time on Fox Sunday, January 3, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
